POSITION: The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Department of Biology invites enthusiastic applicants for a full time, fixed term, renewable instructional academic position at the rank of Lecturer to begin August 22, 2022. We are searching for a broadly trained biologist who can teach courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology, and introductory Human Biology. Candidates must be committed to excellence in undergraduate instruction and embrace the university’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity.

QUALIFICATIONS: At minimum, a Master’s degree is required from an accredited institution. A degree in an area of human biology is preferred and demonstrated evidence of successfully teaching courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology at the collegiate level is required. Experience in teaching large lectures is a plus. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness is an asset.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in our Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II course sequence (Biology 214/314), introductory human biology (Biology 151), and/or general biology (Biology 105) courses for non-majors. Human A&P is a high demand course at UWEC primarily taken by pre-nursing, kinesiology, biology, and other professional health-oriented majors and minors. The teaching commitment is approximately 15 contact hours per week of one lecture with accompanying labs/semester. Opportunities also exist to engage in service to the Department, College, University and/or community. Salary and rank will be commensurate with teaching experience and full benefits apply.

THE UNIT: The Department of Biology currently has 15 faculty, 3 instructors, a lab manager, a greenhouse/animal care manager, and approximately 600 Biology majors including 100 Biochemistry/Molecular Biology majors. Department members are dedicated to teaching and are actively involved in research with undergraduates as demonstrated by co-authored presentations and publications. The Department is affiliated with the Institute for Health Sciences on campus, which is a consortium of academic departments and programs that support the advancement and visibility of the pre-professional and professional health science programs.

Departmental facilities include a variety of teaching and research laboratories, standard cell and molecular instrumentation, equipment and facilities for cell culture, gel and blot documentation systems, a real-time PCR system, and shared access to conventional and confocal fluorescence microscopes and transmission and scanning electron microscopes. In addition, we have three greenhouses and an animal care facility. Research is supported by both external and internal grants, and we participate in the Ronald McNair Post- baccalaureate Achievement Program. Internal funds are also available to support faculty and student travel to professional meetings.
