BSW Field Education Director Job Description (Full-time Tenure Track) 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Candidates must have a master’s degree in social work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program. Candidates must have at least two years post-master’s social work degree practice experience and must have a social work license to be eligible for tenure track position. Candidates must be able to teach courses across the social work curriculum at the BSW level, and while teaching at the MSW level may be available, principal assignment will be to the bachelor’s program. Must be willing to teach in face-to-face and online/blended platforms, during the day and evening, and if necessary, interdisciplinary courses.  

Candidates must demonstrate, or discuss how they will demonstrate, professional development as teachers, scholars, and practitioners through activities that support the program’s missions and goals. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to advising and student engagement to support academic success.  

Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The candidate must have proven ability to work with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds and identities in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Applicant’s letter of interest must include a statement regarding specific efforts to cultivate a more diverse and inclusive educational environment, including specific strategies for embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into curriculum.  


DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching and familiarity with face-to-face and blended/online platforms. Special consideration given to qualified candidates who reflect minoritized populations. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in development and/or oversight of social work field education activities and those with successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Familiarity with central Iowa social work resources a plus. Interest in teaching macro and research courses a plus.  


DUTIES: 

The selected candidate will serve as field education director for the BSW program, teaching courses across the curriculum at the micro, mezzo, and macro level. The selected candidate will oversee all aspects of the student field education experience, including: identify potential field settings; establish and maintain positive relations with field liaisons and provide orientation toward expectations; place and monitor students; and evaluate student learning/field effectiveness. The teaching load is 12 credits each fall and spring semester, in a combination of face-to-face and blended/online formats carried out in day and evening schedules. Summer teaching may be expected. The candidate will participate in activities serving the department, such as student advising, and contributing to departmental decisions and program development. The candidate will also be expected to engage in scholarship endeavors and participate in activities serving the university and community.
