Position Description
The Department of History at Tulane University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the History of the Middle East/Islamic World, starting July 2022. This position will be held jointly with the Tulane Program in Middle East and North African Studies (MENA). The successful candidate will join a vibrant cohort of scholars and contribute to the growth of our MENA program, which is conducting a cluster hire of three new interdisciplinary tenure-line positions this year. The field of research is open, teaching experience preferred. Candidates should have a working knowledge of at least one language appropriate for research in the Middle East and/or Islamic World and should be prepared to offer classes in both the History of the Modern Middle East and the Premodern Islamic World.

We are committed to creating an intellectually diverse, inclusive, and equitable institution, and we especially encourage candidates from historically underrepresented groups to apply, as understood both in the U.S. and in the MENA region.  Review of applications will begin October 15 and will continue until the position is filled.

Qualifications
Candidates must complete all requirements for the Ph.D. by 1 June 2022

Application Instructions
Applicants’ dossiers should include a letter of application, C.V., an article-length writing sample, and names and contact information for three references; letters of recommendation will be requested for short-listed candidates.
