Mission or Goal of Unit
Virginia Commonwealth University ( VCU ) School of Social Work invites applications for two (2) full-time Term (non-tenure track) faculty positions at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level. We seek candidates with strong records in social work practice who will be responsible for teaching, curriculum development, and service activities within the School. Our M.S.W. degree program has expanded rapidly in recent years and now includes a fully online format in addition to the on-campus program. We are also in the process of developing online courses for our B.S.W. program with plans to eventually offer both online and hybrid modality options across both programs.

This is a term faculty position in social work which includes teaching and service assignments. VCU is a research I extensive institution with a diverse university community and commitment to multiculturalism. Successful candidates will enhance our School’s focus on social and economic justice and interdisciplinary applied research, and have experience or potential for working in a culturally diverse community. Position Responsibilities
Teaching : Faculty Members will have teaching responsibilities which address student attainment of social work competencies at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty Members will be responsible for teaching different course modalities. Possible course assignments may include but are not limited to required courses in practice, oppressed groups, human behavior (person-in society), research, and policy in the B.S.W. program; and required foundation and concentration courses in practice, social justice, human behavior, research, and policy in the M.S.W. program.

2. Service: Faculty member will serve on School and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their area of expertise, e.g., reviewer, committee member.

Required Qualifications
  • MSW degree is required
  • Applicants should have at least 3 years of experience in one or more areas of clinical or macro social work practice
  • Applicants should have at least 2 years experience in teaching social work courses, and clear capacity for collaboration and expanding our faculty expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required, and a Statement of Contribution to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is required of all applicants.
Preferred Qualifications
  • L.C.S.W. and/or doctorate is preferred
