Hillsdale College, an independent, four-year, Christian institution with a traditional liberal arts curriculum, invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track position in theology beginning August 2022. The successful candidate will offer three classes a semester, which includes one to two sections of the core “Western Theological Tradition” course. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Reformation and early modern theology who can teach with sensitivity a survey course spanning from 1500 to the present day, as well as a course in 16th-cent. theology, in a nonsectarian setting. Faculty are expected to display excellence in teaching, dedication to the College’s mission, and a commitment to scholarship, all in a growing, collegial department. Ph.D. required by time of employment.

Complete applications must include the following documents: (1) a cover letter that demonstrates suitability for the position and enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching; (2) a statement expressing well-defined research interests and professional goals; (3) a detailed response to the College’s Mission Statement (www.hillsdale.edu/about/mission) that illustrates the candidate’s ability to teach in light of its commitments; (4) a curriculum vitae; (5) three recent letters of recommendation; (6) graduate transcripts; (7) a teaching portfolio (including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, and evaluations); and (8) a writing sample. The search committee will begin reviewing complete applications on December 1, 2021.
