Job Summary
The equity officer is responsible for conducting investigations into complaints of gender-based, bias-motivated or other discriminatory misconduct among faculty, staff, students and other covered entities within the university community.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities and Execution
- Serves as the deputy Title IX coordinator
- Conducts prompt and thorough investigations, assuring appropriate scope and impartiality
- Identifies and applies relevant university policies to complaints
- Drafts reports detailing investigative steps, findings and evidence and disperses them to all involved parties
- Identifies and integrates best practices in Title IX and other student- and employee-related regulatory investigative fields
- Investigates and resolves issues that do not qualify as a policy violation, but require educational conversation and follow-up
- Assists with student and staff training related to federal, state or other governing bodies’ regulations and mandates
- Interviews parties, witnesses and other individuals relevant to the alleged misconduct
- Assists with training and advising hearing and appeal officers
- Updates and maintains case files and other records related to complaints
- Gathers, reviews and analyzes available data and evidence as it relates to alleged misconduct
- Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
- Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork
- Delivers presentations, training and other educational programming to faculty, staff and students
- Works closely with campus departments to resolve cases
- Assists with data collection and preparation for reports, presentations and other publications required by law or as requested by appropriate personnel
Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 1 year of experience conducting administrative and/or criminal investigations
- Master’s degree in criminal justice or related field preferred
- Experience as a criminal or civil investigator preferred
- Certification or progressive training in discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct preferred
- Completion of vaccination status survey and proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- Ability to exercise excellent judgment and reasoning
- Ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality and remain impartial in complex and emotionally charged situations
- Skilled in applying innovative approaches in problem solving
- Strong attention to detail
- Working knowledge of general office hardware and computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Demonstrated ability in handling difficult interactions, including working with individuals who may be in distress
- Knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations related to Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Clery Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
- Knowledge of Title IX investigations
- General office setting
- Ability to work effectively at a computer for up to eight hours daily
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function
