Position Summary

The Mac Lead Desktop engineer will work independently, overseeing the installation, maintenance and administration of campus-wide Apple Device automation, management, and self-service tools. Responsible for operation and security of faculty and staff Apple desktop computer systems. Will provide backup support for Windows desktop automation and management systems. Incumbent will independently research, develop, recommend, and maintain procedures related to managing Apple and Windows desktop computer systems and devices. The incumbent will interact with other campus departments and technical personnel in teams and committees to develop and recommend campus-wide solutions to directors, departments, technical staff and campus administration.

FLSA: Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,249 to $12,100 per month

Hiring Range: $7,500 to $9,000 per month

Salary Grade/Range: 3

Recruitment Type: Regular

Time Base: Full-Time

Pay Plan: 12 months

Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm; other hours as required.

Minimum Qualifications

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience installing and troubleshooting Apple operating systems in a medium size enterprise environment.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience building and maintaining Jamf Apple device management software.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience managing Apple device hardware and software.

  • Ability to work and problem solve independently.

  • Advanced listening and communications skills, including ability to write clear, concise, functional, and technical documentation, and the ability skills to train customers on new systems and enhancements

  • Demonstrated experience implementing Information security policies, procedures, guidelines, and best practices (e.g., vulnerability scanning, anti-virus software updating, operating system and application patching, event logging and strong passwords, etc.)

  • Excellent organizational skills to handle heavy workload and multiple projects with frequent interruptions and schedule changes.

  • Strong customer service and relationship skills.

  • Demonstrated skills to manage projects and successfully accomplish tasks assigned.

  • Skilled at training others.

  • Skilled at identifying usability issues and making recommendations for updates and improvements.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years' experience installing and troubleshooting Apple operating systems in an Active Directory environment in a medium size enterprise environment of at least 1,000 computers and printers, preferably within higher education environment.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience implementing self-service/software center for application and configuration management.

  • Demonstrated experience managing desktop and application virtualization.

  • Working knowledge of Windows enterprise operating systems automation and management in an Active Directory environment.

  • A+ or equivalent college courses

  • Two years Customer Services experience, preferably within higher education.

  • Consulting experience preferably in a university environment

  • Experience managing cloud desktop and application virtualization environments.
