Position Summary:
The Division of Facilities Planning & Management, Capital Planning & Development Facility Project Manager is responsible for the administration, planning, and management of capital projects that are critical to developing and maintaining campus facilities. In addition, this position is responsible for developing scope/budget documents for the biennial capital building requests. The project manager serves as a campus representative during all phases of design and construction for major projects, which include instructional, research, auxiliary, and laboratory spaces. This position will manage multiple projects simultaneously with project budgets ranging from approximately $200K to $10M. The person in this role will represent campus needs and interests with other State agencies in the design of university facilities, in setting related guidelines and in making operational decisions.
This position works closely and manages work in collaboration with other departments including other units within Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M), UW System Administration, the Division of Facilities Development, campus divisions and departments, and architectural/engineering consultants. The person in this role will have a high degree of independence.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management from an accredited institution of higher education.
Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
No-Prefix Level:
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in architectural design, construction project management or engineering project management.
Demonstrated experience in managing building and infrastructure design projects from inception through construction and closeout.
Demonstrated experience in site planning & coordination, good understanding of utilities and MEP coordination, air/water/thermal barriers, experience coordinating design to work within a campus setting, experience in many different functional types, experience in the selection of interior building materials and finishes, space planning, and development of interior details.
Demonstrated experience in developing project and construction cost estimates and schedules.
Senior Level:
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in architectural design/construction and project management with 5 years in a laboratory setting.
Demonstrated experience in planning, design, construction, and commissioning of laboratory facilities for research and instruction at a university level.
Demonstrated experience in managing building and infrastructure design projects from inception through construction and closeout.
Demonstrated experience in site planning & coordination, good understanding of utilities and MEP coordination, air/water/thermal barriers, experience coordinating design to work within a campus setting, experience in many different functional types, experience in the selection of interior building materials and finishes, space planning, and development of interior details.

License or Certificate:
For Facilities Architect, Engineer, or Construction Management applicants, registration as a Professional Architect or Engineer is strongly preferred.
Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) is desirable.

Knowledge and ability in the principles and practice of project management.
Knowledge and experience in interior architectural design.

Ability to organize planning and design processes and studies.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
