The Center for Learning, Teaching, and Research ( CLTR ) at Colgate University invites applications for the position of Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services. While the CLTR reports through the academic division, the Director will work closely with Colgate’s Division of Athletics and is directly responsible for overseeing academic, curricular, and career skills mentorship to Colgate’s ~550 student athletes throughout the year. Specifically, the Director will provide direct assistance to individual student-athletes and teams, with the goals of enhancing academic performance and success, developing personal and academic skills, and facilitating career readiness opportunities.

The Director must be attuned to the ideals and priorities associated with education at a selective liberal arts university, and is not involved in academic advising or seen as a substitute for faculty advisors, professors, or administrative deans. This position is critical in ensuring the proper weighting of academic and athletic expectations, and works to educate coaches with regards to Colgate’s academic mission and values, academic faculty with regards to athletic demands, and facilitating communication between student, academic faculty, athletic faculty, and staff. The Director responds to the special needs of student-athletes, and acts as a conduit to the support services available to all Colgate students. Accountabilities
The Director is accountable for developing a strong working relationship with Athletics staff and faculty and to work closely with the Director of Student-Athlete Development to support the academic success, personal development, and career readiness of Colgate student-athletes. Specifically, the Director will:
  • Provide academic and life skills mentorship to individual student-athletes and to athletic teams. This may include the development and implementation of workshops and lectures addressing academic achievement, career development, and personal development.
  • Develop, nurture, and promote positive working relationships among athletics staff and teaching faculty across campus.
  • Monitor the progress of student-athletes who have been identified to be in need of special academic support, or who are at risk of failing to meet academic expectations, advise student-athletes to take full advantage of support services available to Colgate students, and encourage close interaction with professors and faculty advisors.
  • Provide guidance to student-athletes interfacing with the Office of Student Conduct, including instances of conduct violations (e.g. Academic Honor Code, conduct policies, etc.) and assist in facilitating communication among impacted parties in accordance with educational privacy laws.
  • Identify or conceive opportunities to recognize the achievements of student-athletes.
  • Coordinate and invigorate the Faculty Liaison Program.
This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority ( CSA ), in accordance with the federal statutory requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act. CSAs are required to and responsible for reporting allegations of crimes they receive from students and employees to the Campus Safety Department. Professional Experience/ Qualifications

The successful candidate will have characteristics aligned with Colgate academic virtues (thoughtful, driven, enthusiastic, cohesive and bold), and must have demonstrated a strong work ethic and a clear commitment to boundaries such as those established by NCAA and Patriot League rules.

Three years experience in an academic support and/or student-athlete academic development setting or similar position. Preferred Qualifications Education
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
