Description

As a full-time contract faculty member, this individual will teach courses in the department and remain current in their specialty area. They are also asked to contribute to the professional life of the Department of Psychological Science and perform other duties as assigned by the department’s chair. The typical academic load for contract faculty in our department is 12 credit hours for teaching each semester, with the possibility of course overloads.

Contract faculty contribute to Ball State’s mission through excellence in teaching and service to the university, its students, and the surrounding community. In the Department of Psychological Science, contract faculty contribute to the department’s mission by teaching courses in their area of expertise, including both general and specialized courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. The department works to provide access to resources to contract faculty for research or community engaged work. Contract (non-tenure line) faculty are highly valued and are active members of the department. Currently, the department is comprised of 35% contract faculty, who have an average of nearly 20 years of service. These faculty are eligible for promotion and merit raises, as well as full participation in the University’s affairs and benefits programs. The University has a history of promoting contract faculty and 75% of department contract faculty have been promoted. Many of the department’s contract faculty have been recognized for their excellence in teaching.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in psychology or closely related field from an accredited college or university; potential as a teacher of psychology courses.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

We are seeking applicants who demonstrate one or more of the following qualifications: doctoral degree in psychology or closely related field from an accredited institution; experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level in a psychology program or a closely related field; experience teaching courses, or a history of applied work or academic research, in a field of psychology that encompasses one or more of our department’s areas of academic/research concentration (bio/neuro, psychopathology/clinical, social/diversity, industrial/organizational, cognition/learning, development, and/or stats/research); and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. Our department’s needs assessment indicates a strong preference for individuals with experience/potential to teach courses in industrial/organizational, diversity or bio/neuro psychology.
