Job Description:

Primary Purpose

The Director of New Student Programs is responsible for providing leadership in creating programs and enrichment activities to foster engagement and student success. The individual will participate as an active team member with other college staff and faculty to develop new initiatives and lead new efforts such as learning communities, early alert systems, mentor programs, new student orientation, academic success initiatives, and other support services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in developing programs and services to create a positive experience for new students to enhance their academic and personal development.
  • Oversee all aspects of orientation programs for new students in coordination with Enrollment, Advising, and other college offices.
  • Development of New Student Orientation curriculum and manage all orientation sessions.
  • Supervise the Coordinator of Student Engagement.
  • Develop and implement programs for special populations to address the holistic needs of our students and create a foundation for success.
  • Serve as a liaison between academic departments, Academic Advising, Academic Support and other key offices to create programming that best meet the needs of students while supporting their academic, social, and personal development.
  • Program development and assessment.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Dean of Enrollment, Director of Academic Advising, and Director of Academic Support on developing and maintaining an early alert system.
  • Coordinate and support the ongoing efforts of The Brotherhood program to include recruiting, training, and supervision.
  • Work collaboratively across the college to develop first year learning communities and related initiatives.
  • Develop and expand signature mentorship opportunities for RCC students.
  • Work with Institutional Research to design mechanisms for gathering essential information about new students entering the college.


Occasional Duties

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Student Services.



Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university required. Master's degree in student personnel/higher education administration, counseling or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to lead campus-wide new student programs and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of trends and best practices related to the promotion of retention and graduation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and an ability to work with a highly diverse population.
  • Competence in utilizing student information systems.
  • Ability to foster good working relationships with students, staff, and members of the college community.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five years' successful professional experience in a community college setting in work involving first year experience programs.
  • Management experience in a union environment.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish (verbal and written).
