The Associate Vice Chancellor for Federal Relations is responsible for developing and implementing the federal governmental affairs program. Advocates on behalf of the University of Houston System in Washington on federal government relations goals.

  1. Represents the needs and goals of UHS before the United States Congress and Executive Branch (eg., U.S. Department of Education, U.S Department of Energy, National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation).
  2. Identifies, reviews, analyzes and interprets legislation and regulations that could materially impact UHS and its interests.
  3. Assists in coordination of governmental relations activities among components.
  4. Works with university and system committees to develop and coordinate plans for governmental relations activities.
  5. Serves as liaison between campuses and Congress members constituents.
  6. Creates reports relating to federal governmental affairs activities for various groups and organizations.
  7. Researches legislative history and intent of pertinent federal statutes and regulations.
  8. Drafts letters and memos.
  9. Cultivates partnerships with other state universities and systems to develop and enhance open communications.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications :

Masters and 7 years experience

Education: Requires application of advanced principles, techniques and theory in a professional discipline or a thorough general business management knowledge. Knowledge of this level is typically obtained through a directly job-related Master's degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed.Experience: Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.Preferred: Work history within related Federal Executive Agencies, as a member of staff for a member of the U.S. Congress, and/or similar position at another university.
