Position Summary:
The ICWRM in the CESTA seeks an engineering research assistant to study and improve water quality impacts from municipal discharges into predominantly rural watersheds or those watersheds that have seen rural-urban interfaces. Central State University partners with Montgomery County Environmental Services ( MCES ), Ohio, to develop intelligent water systems to minimize and control these discharges into Stillwater River, a tributary to the Great Miami River, Ohio. The focus will be on reducing wastewater and associated nutrients from Montgomery County sanitary sewer system through monitoring its integrity using SCADA systems that retrieve real-time data from sensors installed at strategic locations across the system. The successful candidate will deploy hydraulic models in the design, retrofitting, and optimization off-sewer sheds to minimize sewer overflows from extreme rainfall events.

Duties and Resposibilities:
  • Use hydraulic models to estimate sewer overflows under rainfall extremities.
  • Calibrate, validate, and deploy models with assistance from a professional modeling consultant working with the county.
  • Work with the county in providing modeling support in the operation and design of sanity sewer systems.
  • Assist the principal investigations (PIs) on the project in chemical and nutrient sample collection, preservation, experimentation, and analysis.
  • Assist MCES in the management of sewer flow sensors and rain gauges.
  • Prepare presentations and technical reports for review by the PIs and county engineers, and administrators.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
  • B. S. in Environmental Engineering with an entry-level experience in hydraulic modeling
  • Possess knowledge in hydrology and water resources in engineering
  • Demonstrated skill in sample collection and analysis
  • Proficient in technical report writing
