SUMMARY

The Carthage College Office of Public Safety is looking for applicants for the Student Liaison Sergeant (SLS) position. This role assists in planning, organizing, and facilitating s programs. The SLS acts as an Office of Public Safety liaison with students and other campus stakeholders and builds constructive relationships with the campus community. This position will serve as shift sergeant when necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • General patrol duties.
  • Will serve as Shift Supervisor.
  • Maintain standards for public safety operations and performance, as well as related community programming.
  • Assist in the development of crime prevention, intervention, and enforcement programs, and inform the campus community about public safety directives.
  • Assist with investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and educational rights and privacy act about public safety issues.
  • Provide leadership and coordinate training/education for students.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness activities on behalf of the department, including but not limited to assisting with Emergency Notification System messaging, training across campus, coordination of emergency signage across campus, and more.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

  • Associate's Degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered instead of a degree.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of two years experience as a public safety professional on a college campus or similar environment preferred, with a demonstrated ability to communicate with students.
  • Working knowledge of both federal and state law enforcement rules and regulations.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate student programming.
  • Ability to interpret institutional policies, plans, objectives, rules, and regulations, and communicate this information to the campus community.
  • Ability to prepare and present detailed studies and reports.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a diverse college setting are essential.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to prepare and deliver presentations before small, medium, and large groups of people.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Trained in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Valid driver's license with good driving history required.
  • Ability to be available 24/7 in the case of emergency and periodic supervisory presence on all shifts.
