The at American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates seeks to hire a full-time faculty member in modern Middle Eastern history beginning in the fall of 2022. This full-time position is open to applications from all ranks. Candidates whose scholarship and teaching connect developments in the Middle East with broader transnational or global issues are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to teach existing courses in World History, Globalization, Imperialism, the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and also develop courses in their field of specialization. Ability to teach courses in Ottoman History and Women’s Studies is a plus.

Successful candidates will have a PhD in History or related discipline; a record of excellent teaching, ideally of at least one year; a proven record of scholarship; and an active research agenda. The new department member will be expected to reside in the UAE starting in August of 2022. All department members are expected to contribute to a range of faculty and student-oriented service activities in what is a vibrant interdisciplinary department. The regular teaching load is 3-3, with support for conference, research travel and access to internal research funding

As a university formed on the American model and with English as the language of instruction, American University of Sharjah will give priority to candidates who have substantial experience in American models of higher education.
