DEFINITION: The Bright Futures Education Partnership is a community partnership of organizations and individuals collaboratively advancing educational outcomes for local students from early care to college completion. Under the general supervision of the Data and Research Partnership Manager and periodic direction from research advisors, the Senior Data and Research Analyst conducts the data and research activities of the Bright Futures Education Partnership, applying expertise to education related projects among racially and ethnically diverse populations in order to advance educational achievement and eliminate equity gaps. The Senior Data and Research Analyst builds relationships in collaborative work teams with community partners and other data and research experts. This person designs and implements a variety of research and data analyses, including: planning and carrying out phases of original projects, gathering, compiling and analyzing research data, preparing questionnaires, collecting and interpreting field data, devising coding manuals for qualitative data, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, conducting statistical analyses of data and leading presentations and writing reports for both technical and mainstream public audiences. RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions: 1. Provide quality data, evaluation and research services to community teams
  • Analyzes the data-related needs of continuous improvement teams and recommends and designs solutions for data, metrics, evaluation and research, including qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Measures program effectiveness and results of applied practices in the context of learning and development and human behavior
  • Interprets and complies with district, state and federal policies, regulations and laws specific to program evaluations, student testing and assessment, student privacy and confidentiality of data
  • Demonstrates effective equity, empathy and listening skills in co-design considerations with a diverse group of community partners
  • Leads and/or attends collaborative project meetings as needed with students, parents, early care providers, K12 staff and administrators, colleges, businesses, government and others


2. Collect data
  • In accordance with established protocols, data collection procedures and documentation standards, administers surveys and conducts and records face-to-face, telephone and/or virtual focus groups and interviews with participants
  • Maintains accurate data collection records, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary
  • Travels to field sites to collect and record data as appropriate to the specific objectives of the study
  • Contacts potential subjects and appropriate school personnel to introduce and explain study objectives and protocols and to arrange research participation, either in person, by telephone or virtually
  • Identifies and compiles lists of potential research subjects in accordance with study objectives and parameters
  • Leads or guides the data collection efforts of small research teams as needed
3. Analyze Data and Assure Accuracy
  • Designs and manages computer database and/or spreadsheet application for analysis of large data sets
  • Conducts qualitative and quantitative analyses of primary and secondary data
  • Designs and applies research protocols and coding procedures
  • Summarizes qualitative and quantitative findings from surveys, focus groups and interviews
  • Analyzes data with attention to equity insights at individual- and systems-levels that are actionable in the community
  • Identifies patterns and trends and draws conclusions and insights; makes recommendations for further study
4. Research Reporting
  • Prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
  • Prepares progress reports for Steering Partners, Backbone, project teams and principle investigators
  • Prepares articles, reports and presentations for a wide variety of community audiences including professional and general public communications with attention to actionable equity insights
  • Writes publications
5. Other/Administrative
  • Builds and maintains positive working relations with diverse community members, ranging from PhD-level researchers to community members with limited experience with data and research
  • Conducts literature reviews
  • Meets regularly with supervisor to discuss research and data assignments
  • Supervises undergraduate students working on research projects (maintaining records on assignment completion, acting as liaison between the undergraduate students and the supervisor)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques, including the planning and design of studies and investigations, determining variables, developing bibliographical and other sources of data, and preparation of research reports; general knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including methods of collecting statistical data, simple correlation methods, time series analyses, analysis of frequency series, and sampling techniques; knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of different research methodologies, especially as it relates to equity, depth of understanding, and generalizability. Ability to prepare questionnaires and other survey instruments; ability to gather, compile, and analyze research data, and to present data in tabular, graphic, and pictorial form, ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports; capacity for independent and creative thinking and writing on research and statistical problems; ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a small team; and to articulate a sophisticated understanding of racial equity and structural racism and to integrate the understanding into data and research projects, community interactions, and communications.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in math, statistics or other field of study involving considerable analysis and research methods; or equivalent work experience.
  2. Three years of progressively responsible experience in technical research or statistical work in the collection, compilation and analysis of data; or equivalent experience conducting technical analyses in a graduate degree.
  3. Ability to identify, quantify and research manifestations of inequities at individual, organizational and systems levels
  4. Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills in diverse environments; experience relating to others across cultures and identifying culturally relevant needs and assets of others
  5. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

Compensation and Benefits:

The monthly hiring range for this position is $5,833 - $6,240. This is a salaried position and as such is not eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
