We are currently seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor (Non-Tenure Track) position for the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Department. The program resides in the College of Health Sciences, Education and Rehabilitation (CHER) that also includes programs in occupational therapy, physician assistant, blindness and low vision, post-baccalaureate, and biomedicine.

As a full time, 12-month core faculty member you will engage in teaching, research, clinical and community service activities to advance the education and training of students enrolled in the SLP Master’s program. In addition, you will contribute to the general body of knowledge of the SLP profession through the scholarship of teaching, research, clinical practice, and continuing education ensuring the educational process and program development is in accordance with the standards, principles and scope of practice set forth by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Finally, you will provide service to the program, college and university by participating in committee work as needed and assigned. 

Principal Responsibilities:  

  • Provide course instruction across the lifespan in-person and via on-line/hybrid teaching and clinical activities
  • Assist with designing, implementing, and refining the SLP graduate program(s)
  • Adhere to the creating, development and implementation of course syllabi using standardized university policies, procedures and formats
  • Participate in the admissions process for the SLP graduate program(s)
  • Evaluate student performance by developing competency-based standards, student learning outcomes, and formative and summative evaluations and serve as an academic advisor for SLP graduate students
  • Assure the availability of remedial and advanced instruction based on student educational needs
  • Utilize state-of-the-art technology and software to provide student education and clinical training
  • Serve as a faculty clinician and/or clinical supervisor in the on-campus speech-language pathology clinic
  • Develop a clinical or basic science line of research with the goal of research funding; opportunities for student involvement; and professional presentations and publications at state, regional, national and international conferences
  • Assist in writing annual accreditation reports and postings to the SLP/CHER website announcing faculty and student accomplishments
  • Help to effectively market the SLP program(s) to various constituents throughout the university and across local, national and international communities by participating in community-based service projects, programs and organizations. 

Education/Experience Requirements: 

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D) in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • ASHA Certification in SLP (CCC-SLP) and eligibility for SLP Licensure in Pennsylvania

Desired Skills and Abilities:  

  • Preference given to individuals with clinical, teaching and research expertise in: adult language disorders; neuroscience/speech science; or counseling
  • Minimum 3-5 years clinical, teaching, and research experience in selected area(s) of expertise in an institution of higher education
  • Funded grant work or grant writing experience
  • Knowledge of content delivery methods including web-support classes (e.g., Blackboard) and distance learning
  • Excellent oral and written communication, computer skills, and knowledge of clinical/didactic computer applications
  • Team-building, organization, time-management, and leadership skills
  • Experience networking with various academic disciplines to promote interprofessional education and practice among faculty and students
  • Active participation and/or leadership in local, regional, national or international SLP organizations.
