Richmond is also served by U.S. Route 25 from Southeastern Kentucky and Kentucky Route 52 from the east and west. The Bluegrass, Mountain, Daniel Boone, and Cumberland Parkways provide even greater accessibility by automobile since the city is located near the convergence of these arterial highways into the interstate system.

EKU is a dedicated high-quality instruction, scholarship, and service, and places emphasis on the three in that order. Position Summary:
EKU is seeking to fill a 9-month full-time position with the Department of American Sign Language and Interpreter Education to teach undergraduate ASL classes (with ability to teach advanced ASL), Deaf Culture, Deaf History and/or Interpreter Education classes, while being involved in ASLIE outreach activities. Satisfactory performance in teaching and service activities required of all candidates. Other duties may include developing materials, involvement with Outreach trainings and other needs identified by the ASLIE department. All faculty members may also teach online or distance learning courses, utilizing and embracing new technologies. Disposition: collaborative, team oriented, sense of humor, patience to support student success, strong ethical foundation, innovative, creative and critical thinking that leads to inspired teaching. Position requires service at the department, college, university and/or professional levels, as well as quality instruction and professional development. Scholarly activity is encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. BA/BS in appropriate discipline related to the field of interpreter education from an accredited or internationally recognized institution and SLPI Advanced Plus or higher or ASLP level 4 or higher preferred;
  2. Understanding of L1-L2 language acquisition;
  3. Degree in ASL instruction, linguistics, deaf studies, interpreting, or related applicable degree;
  4. College/university experience, teaching, P-12 or higher ed teaching, tutoring or mentoring;
  5. Embraces new technology and on-line learning.
  6. Native or near-native fluency in American Sign Language.


Desired Qualifications:
  1. RID (CSC, CDI, CI, CT, NAD IV, NAD V, NIC) and/or ASLTA certification preferred. If candidate does not have RID or ASLTA certification, upon employment, they must get certification within two years.
  2. Knowledge of linguistics, curriculum design.
