Position Description
The Department of Anthropology at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2022.

Department of Anthropology
The CSUDH Department of Anthropology offers a major and a minor in the discipline with course work in the four anthropological subdisciplines. In addition, courses focus on contemporary disciplinary
research, area studies and societal applications of anthropological knowledge. Majors may choose between the Applied Anthropology, Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, and General Anthropology concentrations.
Mission: The Department of Anthropology is a community of scholars dedicated to teaching and learning excellence in our field and for our students. Our curriculum emphasizes skill development and diverse undergraduate field experiences. Through scholarly work and direct participation in research programs both locally and outside the United States, students gain direct understanding of the varied nature of human experience in cultures of the world.

The Position
The faculty of the Department of Anthropology at California State University Dominguez Hills invite applications from individuals for a Tenure Track position in Linguistic or cultural anthropology specializing in Native North America, at the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2022.
Responsibilities
Teach general undergraduate courses in linguistic anthropology and at least one of the major subfields (archaeology, cultural, and biological), including our North American Indians course. Assist in organizing the annual CSUDH Pow-Wow. Assist with advising majors and minors, particularly in the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas minor, assist in maintenance of the General Concentration in the curriculum, and serve on appropriate departmental, college and university committees.

Required Qualifications
- Completed PhD by start of appointment.
- Area of expertise may include any dimension of linguistic and cultural anthropology with a focus on Native North America that complements existing departmental strengths in sociocultural and applied anthropology.
- Demonstrated commitments to teaching a diverse undergraduate community and engaged advising.
- Scholarly research excellence as evidenced by publication record and plans for future research.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with living Indigenous communities in North America.
- Conduct research that complements our program's emphasis in the interaction between humans and their environments.
- Ongoing or strong evidence for potential projects that can foster undergraduate involvement and career opportunities.
- Experience with NAGPRA issues.
Employment Requirement - Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
