Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Engagement, the Director of Cornerstone Alumni Engagement provides strategic direction and administrative oversight for the newly formatted Cornerstone Alumni programs, and serves as liaison to university's government relations and legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of the Division of Advancement.

Core responsibilities:
Serve as a member of the Engagement Leadership team, which provides leadership in developing and implementing strategic priorities and goals in the areas of alumni engagement.

Partners with both the VP of Advancement and Associate VP for Engagement developing and providing oversight to the Cornerstone Alumni Advisory Board.||In collaboration with Reunion Programs, support program strategy for Cornerstone Alumni including class reunions, and other Cornerstone events such as homecoming programs, using effective planning and leadership.

Seek new opportunities to create Cornerstone Alumni events in collaboration primarily with Chapter Programs, Colleges, and Gift Planning.

In collaboration with Reunion Programs, support formation of volunteer committee and implementation of 50th anniversary celebration within the June Reunion Weekend.

Activate our volunteer networks and engagement partners in key Chapter markets such as NRV, Roanoke, Richmond, and the Greater DC Metro area to develop and deliver local programming that matters to the Cornerstone Alumni constituency.

Support growth in our pipeline for new gifts and commitments from senior alumni through strong collaboration with our gift planning team on lead generation from significant contacts and through other lead generation related program efforts.

Participate in scheduled Alumni Association Board of Directors, staff meetings and other events as required.

Serve as liaison with university's government relations and legislative advocacy team to plan and promote alumni engagement programs that support university initiatives and priorities. Help with planning various alumni engagement programs and events.

Perform other duties as assigned, such as assisting with monitoring alumni relations budget; developing promotional marketing and communications materials; preparing management reports; advising student leadership in development organizations; serving as community liaison; and assisting with training Cornerstone Alumni volunteers.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree or Bachelor's degree and experience equating to an advanced degree.

Experience in event planning, fundraising, educational programming and/or alumni activities.

Experience with contracts and working with vendors.

Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Must be willing to work evenings/weekends and travel extensively as needed.

Strong group presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to train and motivate volunteers.

Significant experience developing effective strategies for planning events to enhance philanthropic support.

Knowledge of Virginia Tech and its programs desirable.
