Job Description

The Assistant Professor of Musicology will teach general education classes with a music focus, undergraduate music history classes, graduate period and genre courses, research & bibliography, and graduate seminars in areas of specialized interest; advise master’s theses (in musicology) and DMA documents; build and sustain a national profile of musicological research and publication that reflects the career of a consistently productive scholar; serve on appropriate student and faculty committees and maintain active participation in other Conservatory activities; contribute to all facets of the Division of Music Studies and the UMKC Conservatory, including academic, performance, and service components characteristic of a Conservatory within a university , such as the support and mentorship of a diverse student body ; make contributions that enrich the cultural environment and the quality of life in the greater Kansas City metropolitan community.

Minimum Qualifications

Evidence of emerging or established productivity as a scholar at the national level, with preference given to candidates with a specialty in Western European or American music since 1750 (research areas should complement the existing faculty); demonstrated successful and innovative experience teaching courses in musicology in a university setting; demonstrated ability working with and supporting students of diverse identities and experiences, particularly those from historically marginalized backgrounds.

Ph.D. in Musicology or Music History (ABD considered, as long as degree is completed by time of appointment).

Full Time/Part Time

This is a tenure-track, full-time, benefit-eligible, nine-month academic appointment.

The appointment starts Fall of 2022.

Salary

Salry is competitive and commensurate with qualification and experience
