Job Summary


The IU Foundation seeks a VP, Talent, Culture & Inclusion (TCI) to lead the IU Foundation’s Human Resources, Talent Management, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion functions. The VP reports directly to the CEO & President, and acts as a key member of the IU Foundation senior management team. This role is responsible for programs and services that attract, develop and retain IU Foundation’s people in ways that align with the organization’s overall mission, strategic objectives, and desired culture. The VP also ensures ongoing IU Foundation support of the IU development community in the areas of talent acquisition, learning and professional development, and diversity, equity and inclusion.


Position Details


Provide strategic leadership in the areas of talent, culture and inclusion by:

  • Building working relationships with leaders across IUF and the University to identify and deliver value-added services that meet the organization’s talent needs
  • Maintaining an effective level of business literacy about the IUF and the University, its operations, business challenges, priorities, and opportunities
  • Analyzing trends and metrics in partnership with the TCI team to develop solutions, programs and policies
  • Providing oversight of key talent management, human resources, and diversity processes and programs

Provide ongoing and operational oversight in the areas of talent, culture and inclusion by:

  • Serving as a trusted advisor and coach to Sr. Management, managers, and staff
  • Providing guidance and frameworks to support organizational restructures, workforce planning and succession planning
  • Identifying learning and professional development needs, as well as the solutions, for the organization and for individual leaders or teams
  • Working across the organization to identify and lead initiatives that advance the Foundation’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, including acting as the co-lead for the IUF Diversity Equity and
  • Assuring competitiveness of IUF’s total compensation package
  • Managing and resolving complex employee relations issues
  • Maintaining knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance; partners with the legal department when appropriate
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase engagement and productivity

Create solutions to address the University’s human capital needs as it relates to development officers by:

  • Serving as a trusted advisor to Sr. Management, VPs of Development, Deans, Chancellors and leaders as it relates to talent acquisition, learning and professional development, and succession or career planning for development officers across the University
  • Working with the TCI team to analyze and prioritize critical business challenges while providing recommendations in collaboration with Sr. Management and VPs of Development      

Lead the TCI team by:

  • Working with the team to identify and communicate strategic priorities that align with business needs
  • Providing management oversight, consultation, strategic and tactical support
  • Supervising, developing, and motivating through regularly scheduled meetings
  • Effectively communicating procedural controls and purpose of such
  • Ensuring development and maintenance of clear, concise policies and procedures
  • Providing individual performance feedback and professional development opportunities, including stretch assignments
  • Ensuring availability to answer questions and serve as a mentor

Approach each situation with a professional attitude by:

  • Exercising good judgment in discussing issues and results
  • Maintaining composure and calm demeanor when situations become difficult
  • Identifying when responsibilities require transparency and when they require confidentiality


Qualifications & Characteristics


  • A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is highly preferred
  • Minimum of 11 years’ experience in organizational development, human resources, or talent management, including a minimum of 5 years’ experience managing teams
  • Experience in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion strongly preferred
  • A professional HR certification, such as the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is a plus
  • Gifted relationship builder across functions and levels within an organization
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff both on an individual level and in large groups
  • Exceptional propensity to manage and lead people, scale up organizations, and learn the strengths of teams in order to put people in positions to succeed
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret HR business processes and data to identify areas of efficiency or process enhancement
  • Ability to analyze organizational talent data and other key performance indicators to identify additional service offering opportunities
  • Demonstrated success in managing and resolving complex employee relations issues
  • Working knowledge of multiple areas of HR including compensation, benefits, federal and state employment laws, talent acquisition, diversity, performance management, succession planning, learning and organizational development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
