Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty

The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Faculty serves as a key member of the Vice President for Academic Affairs leadership team. The Associate Vice President and Dean of Faculty has oversight for personnel processes, policies and procedures related to full and part time faculty appointments and serves as a primary resource person in the implementation of all such policies and procedures. They work closely with department heads and program directors/coordinators in matters related to faculty recruitment, retention, and administers and encourages an environment conducive to excellence in teaching and learning, scholarly and creative achievement, and diversity and inclusion.

The Associate Vice President is responsible for implementing processes and policies for matters relating to faculty personnel, professional development and evaluation, resolution of faculty issues, health and safety, and instructional staffing.  

This position supervises units including Registrar, International Student Affairs, Environmental Health and Safety, and Makerspace. Along with others, they support marketing and fundraising for the faculty and academic areas, and may assist in the pursuit of grants and external funding for curricular initiatives and faculty development.

The ideal candidate will possess a leadership style characterized by the ability to create collaborative relationships with faculty, students, administrators, staff and external constituencies. They have a broad familiarity with the basic disciplines of undergraduate instruction in art and design and related academic subjects. The new AVP and Dean of Faculty will display a deep understanding and experience with academic personnel policies; experience with faculty development and evaluations that promote teaching effectiveness and professional, creative, and scholarly activity; academic governance; and accreditation standards and processes. Further, the ideal candidate will have experience in faculty recruitment, mentoring, and resolving conflict or personnel matters.

The ideal candidate is committed to the importance of the role of new technologies in the teaching and practice of the visual arts; the ability to help create one institutional voice by bridging faculty and administrative roles and interests; course and enrollment management; course descriptions; and the liberal arts within an art and design school.

This is a full-time, twelve-month position with faculty status.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in an appropriate
  • Five years of progressive academic administrative leadership and experience at or above the level of department chair or equivalent, such as management of academic personnel processes, policies, and procedures, programs for faculty recruitment, retention, development, and strategic
  • Seven years college level teaching

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of higher education history, current issues, and accreditation procedures and requirements; specific experience with the standards of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and/or the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
