Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Under limited supervision, the PT Specialist IV, AEL Advising and Testing provides initial advising and testing for students on programs specific to grant-funded GED, ESOL, or supported workforce education and training classes. Supports other staff by performing task-oriented duties while providing clerical, analytical, administrative, and operational support under general supervision. Work hours are split between LSC-Houston North Greenspoint, LSC-Conroe Center and all other LSC campuses and off-site community partner locations where AEL classes are offered. The location for this position is primarily at LSC-Conroe Center in the late afternoon and evening.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of the position from one academic year to the next is dependent upon continued grant funding. Professional Development for TWC, HGAC and LSCS is required by the deadline.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist with daily operations and act as general point-of-contact for the AEL Program
  2. Enter, track, maintain and follow-up ona variety of data, documents and spreadsheets for advising and testing compliance
  3. Work one-on-one with students on proper course selection for CE AEL grant funded classes and make referrals to CE Campuses for all other CE programs
  4. Assists advising and testing staff with scheduling, registration, testing and administrative duties as needed
  5. Contacts students, instructors and staff regarding class cancellations or postponement.
  6. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related work experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Bilingual (English/Vietnamese)


Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $14.09.
