applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate
! This is
a full-time position with full benefits, beginning in January 2022.
This position is part of a collaborative research partnership to
help build models for equity-centered teacher and student learning
through the design of deeper relationships between informal and
formal educational environments. The anticipated end date of this
project is May 2023, with the possibility of extending the
appointment should additional funds become available.
The Postdoctoral Associate will work with The Learning To Transform
(LiTT) Video Gaming Lab, a social design-based experiment that
supports undergraduates, community members, and Black and Latinx
high school students in jointly re-imagining the role of everyday
video gaming contexts as robust learning environments. The central
focus of our project is to understand how to co-design expansive
forms of learning in an intergenerational and interdisciplinary
learning context. More broadly, we want to understand how and if
young people and adults identify and collaborate together, as they
use valued cultural tools and practices in resolving dilemmas that
they experience across their everyday lives.
The LiTT Video Gaming Lab is based in the following program areas
in the School of Education: Learning Sciences & Human
Development and Teacher Learning, Research & Practice. In
addition, we are a partnership between the Youth Empowerment
Broadcasting Organization (YEBO) and University of Colorado,
Boulder faculty, Dr. Arturo Cortez and Dr. Tiera Tanksley.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The Postdoctoral Associate will work with an interdisciplinary and
intergenerational team of researchers, high school students,
undergraduates, and community members to co-design and study young
people’s and educators’ learning in the context of a video gaming
ecology. We expect that the Postdoctoral Associate will use
design-based research methods, socio-cultural approaches to
learning, and research on teacher education and teacher learning to
contribute to our research program. Moreover, the Associate will
participate in research group meetings and ongoing professional
development opportunities in the target areas of the project. In
addition, we expect that the Postdoctoral Associate will also build
and take the lead on a new area of inquiry as part of their
collaboration with the team.
The research will take place at CU, Boulder, and will include
collaboration with our partners at Northwestern University.

What We Require
An earned Ph.D. in the Learning Sciences or a related social
sciences field (e.g., education, gaming studies, anthropology,

- Experience in developing and designing games is highly
- Extensive knowledge of co-designing and leading projects that
involve a variety of partners from non-dominant communities,
including young people, teachers, after-school educators, and
- Experience with design-based research, ethnography, interaction
analysis, teacher learning.
- A strong interest in justice-focused learning.
- Pedagogical background in critical literacies.
- Applicants with an extensive educational experience and an
interest in helping build robust models of teacher education and
teacher learning will be given top priority.
