Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Pipe/Mech Trades II position! This position exists to accomplish the work unit mission of steam service by fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and related equipment for high-pressure steam distribution, heating (direct and indirect), domestic hot water conversion, food service, lab steam, humidification, and air conditioning.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Steam Systems
  • Perform work on steam systems by troubleshooting, selecting, installing, repairing and testing piping systems. This includes cutting, threading, brazing and soldering pipe, valves, regulators and pumps as needed.

After-Hours Emergencies
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed when called by Service Desk.
  • Work past shift to complete work as emergencies arise.
  • Work scheduled overtime during downtimes at University.

Communication
  • Communicate with Pipe Trades Shop Supervisor, building proctors, managers and customers so all are aware of status on work orders, work requests and projects.

Preventive Maintenance
  • Perform preventive maintenance functions by inspecting utility tunnels and mechanical rooms for leaks and equipment failure and service equipment on the prescribed schedule.

Other Duties
  • Perform daily paperwork to make sure time cards are complete and work orders are filled out and closed on the work order system.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures and guidelines, as well as adhere to Standing Operating Procedures for assignments and use of equipment.
  • Participate and complete all safety training.
  • Report potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents and/or procedural violations to the supervisor in a timely manner.


What You Should Know

I&S will be hosting a Hiring Open House from 3:00 – 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 28th at the Research Laboratory 2 building on CU Boulder’s East Campus . Walk-in interviews for this position will be held at this time, and candidates are encouraged to attend. Early submission of your application is also highly recommended. Candidates attending are asked to comply with CU’s current mask mandate and to bring a resume. Hourly parking is available in lot 560.

What We Can Offer

The annual salary range for this position is $61,583 to $64,662.

What We Require

  • Three years of progressively responsible pipe and/or mechanical experience related to the work assignment.
  • At the agency’s discretion, successful completion of a formalized plumbing, pipefitting, steam fitting, or heating, ventilation and air conditioning apprenticeship program, or higher level, non-correspondence course work in the same fields from an accredited vocational school or university may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis. At the agency’s discretion, a journey-level steamfitter license can substitute for the required experience. At the agency’s discretion, demonstrated proficiency on position competencies may substitute for the required experience.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
