Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to provide ongoing improvement and innovation for the two AmeriCorps State programs sponsored by KyCC. To lead this change, the program manager will oversee assessment and evaluation, employ up-to-date proven strategies in college access and student success programming, and apply effective practices from AmeriCorps programs around the country.
The AmeriCorps Program Manager ( APM ) for Program Development & Assessment will work on two AmeriCorps programs; 50% on Kentucky College Coaches ( KCC ), a college access program and 50% on Kentucky Counselor Academy ( KCA ), a college access/student success program.
For KCC, the APM will work on the development and assessment of a successful, established program with 10 years of history. KCC places full-time AmeriCorps members in high schools and colleges to help students create a postsecondary plan and persist and graduate from college. One task will be to develop an Apprenticeship for full-time KCC members. The APM will also work with the KCC contractor, Kentucky Center for Statistics (KY STATS ), to ensure the successful, ongoing evaluation of the program, including a longitudinal study.
For KCA, the APM will be a collaborator with a contractor from the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education to create a new program that provides training, networking, and technical assistance for high school counselors & FRYSC coordinators and collegiate admissions & advising staff. The goal is to help current and future staff to have the most up-to-date and effective information on college access and student success. The APM will work with KY STATS to ensure a strong foundation for assessment and evaluation of the program.
The APM will work closely with the KCC AmeriCorps team including the APM for Members and Strategic Partnerships, the Operations Manager, and the Recruiter. Together they will work to develop the use of national service resources to achieve the KyCC goals of increased college access, student success, and community impact. Primary Responsibilities
1. Work collaboratively with a CPE contractor to ensure a strong start to the new KCA program. Responsibilities include tasks such as communicating with stakeholders, conducting asset mapping, leading meetings, assisting in the development of the KCA curriculum. Serve as the Serve Kentucky Liaison for KCA and attend meetings and/or training as appropriate.
2. Create a Narrative Coaching apprenticeship program for the Kentucky College Coaches program. Use the KY STATS evaluations and program assessments to make improvements and innovations in the KCC program design and delivery.
3. Lead a strong assessment and evaluation process for both KCA and KCC through working with the graduate student contractor to develop and revise ongoing evaluation plans and instruments. Ensure that the 3rd party evaluator, KY STATS, has the data and guidance that it needs.
4. Develop and implement an annual training and professional development plan for KCA and KCC AmeriCorps members that integrates diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the sessions. Support the High Impact Practices (HIPs) training for members, faculty, and staff. Use strong instruments to assess the effectiveness of all training.
5. Meet regularly with the KyCC AmeriCorps team and Executive Director and actively participate in the ongoing development of the programs, contributing ideas about how to connect national service and higher education, how to improve recruitment and customer service, and how to involve KyCC AmeriCorps alumni.
6. Responsible for monitoring the KCA and KCC budgets, meeting monthly with the KyCC Budget Coordinator and the Executive Director. Consult with the KyCC AmeriCorps team and recommend budget revisions when needed.
7. Make regular entries in Salesforce to capture contact information for the participants in meetings, training, and events, and to track program progress.
8. Meet regularly with supervisor (KyCC Executive Director). In collaboration with the ED, agree on metrics for assessing the scope and effectiveness of the APM work. Track metrics annually.
9. Participate in KyCC staff meetings and events and spend time on increasing self-awareness and skills connected to diversity, equity, and inclusion so that can be integrated into all the APM’s work. Complete other duties as needed. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Six years related work experience; 4 years of management experience.
  • Experience with AmeriCorps preferred.
  • Experience in program and/or curriculum design.
  • Working knowledge of evaluation and assessment.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, arrange own schedule.
  • Interest in using national service as a resource to support student success in higher education.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
