Assistant Director of Employment and Labor Relations



Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC), affiliated with The State University of New York (SUNY), is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director of Employment and Labor Relations. We are searching for a seasoned human resources professional who is highly skilled in handling sensitive employee matters and relies on best practices in all areas of expertise.

The Assistant Director for Employment and Labor Relations will provide leadership for the labor and employee relations function including preparation for negotiations, interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements, implementing human resource policies, procedures, and ensuring compliance with legislative/regulatory requirements applicable to FLCC. The Assistant Director promotes equal access and treatment for groups traditionally under-represented in higher education and serves on college committees relevant to the diverse needs of the employee population. Provides leadership, training, coaching and guidance to an HR Generalist who provides professional HR services to College employees and supports the work of the Assistant Director. The Assistant Director leads and coordinates the recruitment process and training and employee development efforts across the College. The Assistant Director also serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator

Qualifications : Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in Human Resources, preferably in employee/labor relations

Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required; M.B.A. or J.D. or other preferred.

Special Skills: Advanced proficiency and technical aptitude and experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HRIS Systems and other applicable programs. Proficiency with Ellucian Colleague, relational databases such as Access or SQL, and data analytics tools such as Tableau preferred.

Essential Functions: Experience in preparation for bargaining, proposal drafting and working with management to identify issues and subjects for bargaining. Understanding of relevant labor laws including federal, state and local labor, employment and wage laws. Experience in interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements, proven success in conflict resolution, mediation and human resources management as it relates to employee relations. Contract administration including full complaint management. Ability to handle extremely difficulty or volatile situations/individuals effectively. Training and experience in mediation and conflict resolution preferred. Experience with other HR management areas such as compensation, recruitment, organizational development, operational management, and program/project management.
