  • Teach courses and develop curriculum in undergraduate and graduate programs including the department’s online M.S.Ed. program in Curriculum and Instruction, in-person, virtual, and/or hybrid based upon departmental need.
  • Model effective instructional practices for diverse student populations and the use of instructional technology in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students
  • Hold regular office hours
40% Research
  • Demonstrate sustained productivity through scholarly works/research through regular publications, professional presentations, and external grant proposals.
20% Service
  • Participate in the regular academic activities of the department and School, including committee assignments and general service activities.
  • Collaborating with faculty across the School of Education and Human Sciences as well as performing service to the department, School, University, regional K-12 schools, and the profession.
  • Serve on and chair graduate committees
  • Professional service in the academic discipline and/or field.

Required Qualifications

  1. Doctorate in Elementary Education or Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in curriculum development/studies and focus on qualitative research methodology, or a closely related field. If ABD, terminal degree must be achieved prior to the employment start date, by August 18, 2022.
  2. Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience in grades P-6 in the U.S. or similarly structured environment.
  3. Demonstrated (or high potential for) teaching excellence with best-practices initiatives (including a culturally responsive pedagogy) in a university setting.
  4. Demonstrated (or high potential for) research and/or scholarship areas relevant to curriculum studies as demonstrated through publications, awards, research grants, or presentations.

Position Overview

The Department of Curriculum & Teaching at the University of Kansas is seeking nominations and applications for a full-time, academic year (9-month), tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Elementary Education. The teaching focus is in elementary, curriculum development within the teacher education undergraduate program and qualitative research methodology in the graduate program located at Lawrence, Kansas. The position will begin August 18, 2022 and require an on-campus presence.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with students and be surrounded by collaborative colleagues across the School of Education and Human Sciences, campus and education community. The Department of Curriculum & Teaching carries an atmosphere of collegiality that is supportive of an environment which is interdisciplinary, collaborative and diverse.
