Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of outreach/communications-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills and the ability to engage effectively with varied audiences.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.

N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the Outreach Manager is to develop and execute internal and external communications, web and social media strategies, and plans for the Appalachian Energy Center.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Develops and implements workshops, conferences, and events for the Appalachian Energy Center.
  • Collaborates with the Appalachian Energy Center's; Research Institute for Environment, Energy & Economics'; and Appalachian State University's network of communications professionals, campus partners, local governments, and community organizations on clean energy / sustainability-related programs, communications, and events.
  • Develops strong, collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external constituents.
  • Serves as the first point of contact for the Appalachian Energy Center.
  • Manages the creation and distribution of all print and electronic materials.
  • Develops and maintains photo, video, and publication archives.
  • Manages projects and efforts of communications interns and freelance staff, as needed.
  • Coordinates large and small-scale events, including clean energy workshops including:
    • Compiling and vetting potential speakers.
    • Leading planning meetings.
    • Developing and adhering to event production and promotion timelines.
    • Evaluating and booking venues.
    • Submitting attendee documentation for continuing education credits.
  • Promotes the quality, growth, and expansion of outreach activities by actively seeking stakeholder feedback to improve processes, systems, and outcomes.
Suggested Salary Range $46,575-$77,000 Physical Demands of Position
Typical physical demands of a professional position within an office environment at a university. Work in this position will be primarily in the office of the Appalachian Energy Center in Peacock Hall. Special Instructions to Applicants
