Job Description:

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts is pleased to invite applications for an Associate Dean for its nascent Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. We seek an experienced administrator and academic leader who is committed to excellence in nursing education and the success of students in the program.

The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Academic Dean to develop and implement an undergraduate curriculum, recruit faculty, and steer the program through the program approval and accreditation processes. The Associate Dean will report to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Work Schedule:

This position is a 12-month full-time staff position; limited teaching opportunities may exist upon program approval.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate Dean will direct the planning, implementation, and operation of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive nursing curriculum plan within a liberal arts context
  • Recruit and hire faculty and staff with attention to MCLA's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Acquire program approval from the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education
  • Acquire program approval from Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN)
  • Acquire and maintain state and national program accreditation
  • Teach in academic programs
  • Apprise administration of any changes to requirements of any program approval or accreditation.
  • Systematically evaluate the program in accordance with national standards, insuring compliance
  • Stay current with industry standards
  • Locate, coordinate, and monitor student clinical sites and schedules
  • Develop, plan, and manage department budgets and purchasing
  • Maintain industry and community support for nursing programs
  • Advise and inform the administration and department faculty and staff on department matters
  • Represent the college in internal and external community activities
  • Participate in college committees, guide faculty meetings and related activities
The Associate Dean will also provide dynamic leadership to:
  • Supervise and mentor staff and faculty; develop and monitor professional development plans that enable faculty to use best practices in the classroom
  • Monitor and address student success and progression rates
  • Provide guidance and direction for students and graduates to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX)
  • Work with the Director of Assessment to develop robust assessment tools at the course and program level; work with faculty and staff to implement and follow through on assessment activities at the course and program levels.
  • Work with the Director of Academic Technology to facilitate the creation and offering of online and hybrid courses that complement on-campus courses
  • Promote participation of the Nursing department in college initiatives such as student success, degree completion, and diversity
  • Create an educational environment that affirms MCLA's commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Nurture an environment of collegiality and transparency
  • Promote connections to other departments that affirm MCLA's Liberal Arts mission
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admission to develop a robust recruitment plan to meet institutional recruitment needs.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Doctorate preferred
  • Eligibility for RN licensure in Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a registered nurse
  • Minimum of 3 years nursing education experience at the baccalaureate level that includes teaching, educational theory and methodology, instructional design and methodology, student evaluation and outcomes assessment
  • Minimum of 2 years academic administration experience or other significant academic/educational nursing leadership experience
  • Evidence of excellent consultation, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead development and implementation of mission-centered, innovative, cost-effective curricula
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to a culturally diverse work environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a liberal arts college environment
  • Experience retaining and mentoring diverse faculty and students
  • Experience developing strong clinical partnerships locally to support the academic programs
  • Experience with innovative, evidence-based, and technologically rich teaching strategies
  • Experience with accrediting organizations for nursing education programs, preferably the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and/or the Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN)

Additional Information:

This is a full-time (37.5 hour/week), 12-month, fully benefited position. Salary range for this position is $120,000-$125,000 per year.
