Mohave Community College is seeking a seasoned academic financial leader to help shape its evolving footprint and drive cultural and operational change. Serving as a strategic thought partner to executive leadership, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will ensure MCC's fiscal health by strengthening its financial performance and championing its sustainability plan.

     Typical Duties:
    1. Prepares and maintains long-term financial forecasts for all of the college’s funds. Monitors both short and long-term internal and external financial and operational developments to ensure that forecasts are current and accurate.
    2. Contributes to the college meeting its strategic objectives by assisting administrators and department heads in conducting financial analysis of current and proposed activities.
    3. Monitors the college’s financial condition and provides budget information to budget supervisors. Oversees preparation of monthly financial statements for the college.
    4. Reports the financial condition of the college to the board of trustees, other governmental agencies, and the college president and administrators on a regular basis.
    5. Establishes, coordinates, maintains, and systematically review the process for financial evaluation of the college instructional and non-instructional programs and activities; serves as a resource to college personnel in determining the cost effectiveness of current and proposed initiatives.
    6. Oversees preparation of the annual budget whereby organizational needs are identified, consensus on priorities is obtained, and priorities are translated into a financial plan. Develops procedures that integrate business and strategic planning into the annual budget process. Monitors external events and developments to ensure that budget preparation incorporates the most current information.
    7. Uses a forecasting model to predict student enrollment.
    8. Monitors cash flow.  Oversees investment activities to ensure appropriate supply of cash at highest possible yield on idle funds while complying with statutory limitations on types of investments.
    9. Serves as an advocate for the college with rating agencies to ensure the highest possible rating for the college.
    10. Coordinates and monitors debt issuance with external financial advisors, bond counsel, etc.
    11. Ensures the timely collection of all accounts receivable.
    12. Monitors cash reserves to provide maximum practical protection.
    13. Provides oversight and advice regarding college financial risk.
    14. Coordinates the purchasing activities of the college, including contract management.
    15. Ensures that the college complies with financial regulatory, legal, administrative, collectively bargained, contractual, procedural, and accounting standards.
    16. Serves as an advocate for the college’s interests.  Represents the college by speaking to and making presentations to external groups who have the capacity to influence/affect the college’s successes.
    17. Maintains positive and productive relationships with federal, state, and local officials who interface with the college
    18. Provides leadership to assigned areas by focusing planning and execution to help college management and the organization succeed and improve productivity, particularly by providing stakeholders with effective information, support systems, resources and business solutions.
    19. Supervises and reviews the performance of professional and technical staff and subordinate supervisors. Supervision includes training, delegation of work assignments, employee evaluation and discipline, and employee hire/termination, promotion and pay rate change recommendations.
    20. Creates action plans to meet department goals and objectives, as well as college goals and objectives. Conduct periodic reviews of progress and measure against goals. Establish procedures for workgroup to ensure success.
    21. Creates and maintains a customer service culture, program, orientation and focus for assigned areas.  Monitors departmental activities and customer satisfaction with service delivery; identifies and implements appropriate improvement measures.
    22. Act as signatory for college documents and contracts.
    23. Perform other tasks of a similar nature or level as assigned.

     

     Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications
    • Master's degree from an accredited institution in accounting, business or related discipline
    • Ten (10) years of experience in accounting, business, auditing, or a related discipline
    • Five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience

    • Any combination of education and experience that results in possession of skills, knowledge and behaviors as outlined in the position’s core competencies below.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Five (5) or more years of experience in a higher education environment

Research or recognize market value of goods and services to ensure efficient and reasonable expenditure of resources.
