PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Director Student Engagement & Leadership Development, the Coordinator performs independent, moderately complex professional student service work to manage all aspects of Greek Life. The incumbent also collaborates with the Coordinator for Student Organizations, Leadership Development & Assessment on co-curricular community engagement and leadership development programs and initiatives. Serves as the CSUMB Coordinator of Student Civic and Voter Empowerment to ensure University compliance with AB 963, the Student Civic and Voter Empowerment Act.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Under the direction of the Director Student Engagement & Leadership Development, the Coordinator performs independent, moderately complex professional student service work to manage all aspects of Greek Life. The incumbent also collaborates with the Coordinator for Student Organizations, Leadership Development & Assessment on co-curricular community engagement and leadership development programs and initiatives. Serves as the CSUMB Coordinator of Student Civic and Voter Empowerment to ensure University compliance with AB 963, the Student Civic and Voter Empowerment Act.
  • Creates, maintains, and distributes a Greek Organization Manual, Event Planning Guide, Advisor's Handbook, and guidelines for student leadership and organizational effectiveness. Provides Advisor Training and collaborates with campus and alumni advisors and National Greek organization leadership to best meet the needs of the University, the CSUMB colonies/chapters and students in Greek organizations. Ensures compliance with Federal, State, local, CSU system, and university policies, procedures, laws, and executive orders.
  • Coordinates and/or provides support for recruitment and intake processes, major Greek events, Greek unity initiatives, Greek publications and marketing initiatives. Promotes & supports Greek involvement in campus-wide programs and community service/engagement initiatives. Develops and works collaboratively with Director in strategically planning for the growth and targeted development of Greek Life at CSUMB. Develop annual reports and assessment of the Greek Life experience at CSUMB. Conducts student co-curricular learning outcomes assessments and program analysis through various means mutually-determined with the Director Student Engagement and Leadership Development.
  • Assists in the oversight of all department community engagement initiatives including co-curricular community service initiatives, student organization community partnerships, philanthropic initiatives, and voter registration and information drives (in conjunction with Associated Students). Supervises two student assistants in their efforts to collaborate with the Service-Learning Institute, student leaders and community partners in the coordination of major Student Civic and Voter Empowerment initiatives and programs. Engage in national days of service, celebrations of service, alternative breaks when feasible. Ensures that logistics, media, marketing, student supervision, risk management, program coordination, budget management and fundraising endeavors are organized and delivered in professional and responsible ways and abide by all applicable policies and procedures. Assess students' engagement outcomes and programmatic impacts.

  • Other Functions:
  • Represents the Student Engagement & Leadership Development department on campus-wide committees.
  • Actively participates in department meetings, training programs, collaborations, retreats and planning sessions.
  • Attends seminars and conferences to maintain program and professional development.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.

    Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multi-sexed and multi‑aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑ related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Master's degree in a job-related field preferred plus two years of experience related to the field of student activities, orientation, event management and coordination & administrative management.

    Highly Desirable: Technical fluency with Banner, Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student information system; Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and Google mail and calendaring programs. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to CSUMB's Vision Statement. Experience that indicates an understanding that students are diverse in their academic, social economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Experience working with students who have disabilities.

    • This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and will be required to participate in annual training and to immediately forward to the Clery Director all reports of crimes brought to their attention pursuant to the Clery Act and California State Education Code, Chapter 15.5, of the Donahue Higher Education Act, Section 67380.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the University's liability coverage.
    • May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.

    PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

    Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. Position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.

    There are components of this job which are deemed essential on campus. This position will primarily work on the main campus, with occasional work from home. This position requires working on campus with students. The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff remain our highest priority.
