The Woodbury School of Business is excited to announce a full-time opening for an academic advisor II. We hope to employ individuals passionate about student success, who are excellent communicators that can build rapport quickly, maintain meaningful personal relationships with our students, and mentor new advisors. Strong applicants are engaging, fun, and willing to collaborate in a fast-paced, team-centered environment. A summary of duties includes:

  • Assist students in the development of meaningful educational planning, major selection, co-curricular opportunities, relevant academic information, and applicable campus resources.
  • Support a student caseload using holistic advising approaches, proactive outreach, and data-informed strategy in an effort to assess potential roadblocks, take early action to mitigate them, and advocate on behalf of students.
  • Utilize technology to monitor student risk trends over time, track student performance and progress toward graduation, and proactively reach out to students in need of intervention.
  • Educate students on enrollment, registration, major selection, university processes, and new student success strategies.
  • Utilize leadership skills to bolster a unified team.
  • Mentor new advisors as they develop their advising talents.
  • Lead team training.
  • Engage in professional development and remain current in advising best practices to adapt and apply professional development-related knowledge to work activities.
  • Participate in department, division, and institutional goals and activities by assisting in the planning and delivery of programs and new initiatives.
  • This is an on-campus position on the Orem, UT campus with the opportunity to work remotely one day per week.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience related to the summary of duties of the position. At least one-year of advising experience at UVU, or a combination of six months of advising at UVU and two years advising related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of student development theory, and effective student success, retention, and completion strategies.
  • Knowledge of the role of lived experiences and intersecting identities in the experience of students, particularly first-generation, adult, and high financial need students.
  • Demonstrated skill in effective interpersonal communication, collaboration, professionalism, and student advocacy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to mentor and train new advisors.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
