Job Summary/Basic Function:
Under general supervision from the Fire Marshal, provides technical assistance in the prevention of fires.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Inspects public buildings for fire safety inspections, supervises and inspects extinguishers for re-tag and maintenance, oversees sprinkler and hood tests, administers pyrotechnic permits along with assembly permits and use. Coordinates / conducts public education classes.

Aids Fire Marshal in completing reports and special projects. Assists in reviewing building and fire sprinkler plans to assure fire code requirements are met.

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Must have a valid Utah Driver License; must be Fire Code certified within one (1) year of appointment. — Must be Fire Inspector I certified within one (1) year of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent Communication skills.

Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles. , Operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, or position. , Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. , Feeling. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. , Expressing or exchanging ideas. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately or quickly. , Ability to receive detailed information with or without assistance.

Physical Requirements of this position: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as: operating machines, (i.e. lathes, drill presses, power saws) where the job is at or within arm’s reach; skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature, such as carpenter, plumber, mechanic.
