MGH Institute of Health Professions, an independent, not-for-profit graduate school founded by Massachusetts General Hospital, invites applications and nominations for Dean of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS). The successful candidate will assume leadership of a school with several nationally ranked degree programs, an impressive research portfolio, and the potential for expansion through collaboration with the School of Nursing and the newly launched School of Healthcare Leadership.

The Dean of SHRS will join a learning-centered environment empowered by recent growth, inspired by a commitment to interprofessional education and practice, and enriched by talented staff and faculty. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of SHRS. SHRS departments include communication sciences and disorders, genetic counseling, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, and rehabilitation sciences. Chairs of those programs report to the Dean along with two assistant deans.   

MGH Institute of Health Professions has announced an organization-wide anti-racism initiative to think boldly about race and bring together all members of the IHP community to address systemic racial injustice as well as oppression more broadly. The successful candidate for Dean will have achieved excellence as a scholar, academic administrator, and leader with considerable financial skills and demonstrated ability to attract talent, empower colleagues, and promote growth. While no candidate will embody every quality, the successful candidate will bring many of the following professional and personal qualifications. 

Education 

Applicants for this position should have academic credentials qualifying them for a faculty appointment at the rank of professor. Licensure/certification in one of the professions represented in the School is preferred.

  • Promoting learning innovations to guarantee student success in an interprofessional setting.
  • Record of impactful research and demonstrated appreciation for the place of research in a higher education setting as balanced with teaching and service.  
  • Active advocacy for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts, especially in policy creation, culture, and curricula.  
  • Efficient management of financial enterprises and/or experiences in diversifying and bolstering revenue streams.
