The West Virginia University (WVU) School of Public Health is hiring multiple tenure-track faculty members to join the Department of Health Policy, Management and Leadership. These positions will as Assistant and/or Associate Professor level. The department is experiencing significant growth related to its academic programs, teaching, and research support, especially in healthcare management and leadership. The department currently includes 10 full-time faculty members and offers both a residential and an online/executive Master of Health Administration (MHA), an MPH concentration in Health Policy, a BS in Health Services Management and Leadership (HSML), and a graduate certificate in Health Data Science; it also supports the school’s BS program in Public Health and MS in Population Health. The department, which recently received the 2021 AUPHA New Member Engagement Award, is seeking CAHME accreditation and AUPHA certification for its respective MHA and BS programs. The CEPH-accredited School of Public Health is located within WVU’s Health Sciences Center campus, which is uniquely co-located with WVU Medicine’s flagship hospital, a behavioral health hospital, a regional office of CDC/NIOSH, and the local county health department.

Position Description:

We invite applicants with broad research and teaching interests in health services administration. We especially welcome applicants with an applied focus and who can teach courses critical to the needs of the Department and the School of Public Health. Particular needs/interests include healthcare finance, health economics, healthcare operations, and/or healthcare or public health management and leadership. Expertise and/or experience in issues pertaining to rural or underserved populations are especially desirable, but not required. The successful candidates would join an engaged and diverse faculty with interests in healthcare and public health leadership, healthcare quality, long-term care administration, global health, health services research, telemedicine, population health and social determinants of health, health policy, and public health-healthcare collaborations. Candidates with a primary interest and background in teaching are also encouraged to apply. Commensurate with a faculty appointment and aligned with their faculty track, the successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain an extramurally funded research agenda, teach courses in the graduate and/or undergraduate programs, and participate in school and departmental service. The ideal candidates will have significant experience teaching in CAHME-accredited and/or AUPHA certified/member program(s). These are for 9-month appointments with opportunities to enhance compensation through summer teaching and research incentive programs. Both track and rank will be commensurate with experience and scholarly activities.

Specific Requirements:

Qualified candidates must hold a terminal degree in health services management, public health, public administration, health policy, health economics, or a related field prior to their appointment. Those applying for/as Associate Professor should demonstrate a record of peer-reviewed research and a sustained record of external funding in areas associated with health policy, health services research, or health administration or an equally strong record of teaching.
