Facilities Management encourages applications for a Pipe/Mechanical Trades I! This position functions as an individual contributor within the Preventive Maintenance Shop performing inspections, minor repairs and preventive maintenance procedures on HVAC equipment, mechanical equipment and electrical rotating equipment.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Mechanical/Electrical Component Maintenance:

This position performs preventive maintenance and inspection procedures (PMs) on mechanical equipment as directed by the PM Shop supervisor. These PMs are specific to each individual component which includes but is not limited to; air compressors, air filters, chillers, cooling towers, condensers, cold rooms, coils, vacuum pumps, hydronic pumps, rotating equipment, furnaces, cold rooms, evaporative coolers and air conditioning units. This duty also includes seasonal startup/shut down of related equipment and minor repairs of all components and related attributes. While performing this duty the position will be required to follow all safety protocols including; all environmental hazards safety procedures, the use of personal protective equipment, the lock-out/tag-out policy and the confined space policy.

Building Inspections and Audits:

As directed, the position will perform building surveys, compile information and documentation for mechanical systems; in both existing and newly acquired buildings on campus (This may include reviewing prints and specifications for projects and performing inspections as needed). Examples may be – deferred maintenance audits, information gathering for the formulation of preventive maintenance checks or routes, survey information such as condensers or coils, or the restructuring of existing PMs to meet the needs of the shop. The position may utilize Microsoft excel to organize the information and then store it on the shared server.

Paperwork, Scheduling, and Other Duties as Assigned:

The position is provided 15 minutes at the beginning and/or end of each day to complete their time card, close out all work orders and to schedule their work for the following day. Time cards are required to be completed daily, when closing work orders the position is required to include closing comments and ensure any repair work orders are created. The position is responsible to complete material issues requests and purchase request to procure any material needed to support the position's workload. The position is limited to a $1,000 per event purchase at the FM Construction Stores without additional approval of their supervisor. As an essential services employee, the position is responsible to respond to other duties as assigned on an as-needed basis. With all duties within this PDQ, the employee is required to drive a University vehicle, to carry tools, materials, and to complete their work. Notifies supervisor or lead worker of safety incidents, near misses and all potential hazards. Maintains safe work practices, participates in department safety meetings and completes all assigned training.

I&S will be hosting a Hiring Open House from 3:00 – 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 28th at the Research Laboratory 2 building on CU Boulder’s East Campus . What We Require

  • Two years of progressively responsible pipe and/or mechanical trades' experience related to the work assignment.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Must be a Colorado resident in order to apply.
