POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Senior HR Generalist, the HR Generalist partners with applicants, hiring departments, and administrators to ensure a streamlined hiring experience that is consistent with applicable college, EEOC and employment policies/guidelines. Understands the technical as well as functional hiring needs and translate those into effective recruitment strategies to find applicants and assist hiring managers with their staffing needs. Establishes and/or assists in establishing, implements, delivers, and evaluates training and professional development needs for college employees. Supports the performance management objectives for the college by coaching managers/employees in conjunction with Labor and Employee Relations to identify developmental needs, planning and implementing appropriately. Performs other HR generalist duties as directed.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1. Proactively partners and collaborates with employees on best approaches, practices, policy and procedure to create and sustain a high performing workforce.

2. Keenly assess systemic and ongoing human resource programing and institutional structures through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice to sustain a culture of belonging.

3. Provide best practice and specialized research to intentionally transform the College’s talent acquisition, labor relations performance management, learning and development and employee engagement strategies.

4. Proficiency in organization and time management; verbal and written communication; interpersonal, and listening skills.

5. Actively partner with managers, staff, and bargaining unit representatives to address a variety of workplace issues and function as a subject matter expert for administrative practices.

6. Drive efforts to optimize Workday functionality including, but not limited to, increased efficiencies, automation, configuration, analytics, training & documentation in the new system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Engage in activities to increase JJC employment brand awareness and maintain presence at community events to increase diversity in applicant pools and ensure the equitable treatment of all applicants and employees.

2. Creates and delivers training and presentations to diverse audiences and backgrounds.

3. Monitor compliance. Ensure all documents are appropriately processed, ensuring confidentiality at all times. Process, complete and analyze reports on various types of employee data (EEO and diversity initiatives including the preparation of reports; analyze headcount, turnover, recruitment trends, and other employment/employee statistics).

4. Coordinate across stakeholders, providing timely and concise communications regarding status of services/projects and pending issues. Educate, mentor and train HR staff on processes and professional practices related to employment, general HR administration and utilizing HR systems.

5. Remain professionally and technically current on all regulatory and compliance related statues, trends, and developments relative to successful execution and performance of the function and position.

6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

7. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or business-related field; or in lieu of Bachelor's Degree, must have Associate's Degree or equivalent, plus 5 years' experience in at least 1 functional area in Human Resources.

2. Two (2) years of professional experience in HR with a demonstrated proficiency in 2 or more areas of human resources management including but not limited to compensation, benefits, employment, employee relations, rewards & recognition, labor relations, talent acquisition, organizational development, employment law, DEI, HRIS, and learning & development.

3. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to create documents and spreadsheets.

4. Strong verbal and written communication skills to empathetically interact with all constituents.

5. Ability to accurately collect information in order to understand and assess the clients' needs and situation.

6. Ability to consistently exhibit strong attention to details, confidentiality and situational judgement.

7. Knowledge of employment law and HR policies and practices; local and state laws and regulations; financial/business acumen.

8. Direct talent acquisition/recruiting experience required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. SHRM – PHR or SPHR Certification or similar.

2. Workday experience or training preferred.

3. Experience with change and project management.

4. Demonstrated experience in higher education and administration of bargaining unit policies and procedures.

5. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

6. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Normal office physical demands.

2. Ability to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual office and/or outdoor environment.
