The School of Earth & Environment at Rowan University is seeking an Assistant Professor for the Department of Geology starting September 1st 2022. We seek outstanding candidates who hold (by Sept 1, 2022) a Ph.D. in Geology/Geoscience or a closely allied field. The successful candidate will have demonstrated early success at research and publication. Postdoctoral experience is a plus. We seek candidates who have a global focus—established international collaborations are a plus.

The areas of expertise are open to any within Geoscience, however, preference will be given to applicants engaged in research focused within, glaciology, geodynamics, geochronology, low-temperature geochemistry, basin analysis, volcanology, and planetary science. Scholars hired in the School of Earth & Environment will have outstanding communication skills, a deep commitment to advancing solutions to the climate crisis and biodiversity crisis, and will have demonstrated dedication to sharing their science with the public through various outreach initiatives.

Rowan University is a Carnegie-classified Doctoral University (R2) with approximately 17,000 students. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, N.J., 20-miles southeast of Philadelphia. Philadelphia International Airport is 30 minutes away, and New York and Washington, DC are easily accessible by train from 30th Street Station. The Jean & Ric Edelman Fossil Park & Museum (www.rowan.edu/fossils), located only 4 miles from campus, is closely associated with the School of Earth & Environment and provides unique research opportunities and teaching resources to faculty members and students. Additionally, the School of Earth & Environment is integral to Rowan’s Catalysts for Sustainability program, which coalesces a group of scholars from each of the university’s schools and colleges around the themes of the climate and biodiversity crises. Rowan’s main campus is located on the Atlantic Coastal Plain, which exposes Holocene through Cretaceous outcrops, including a K/Pg section at the quarry. The Piedmont and Appalachian provinces are 20 minutes and 1 hour away, respectively. The Atlantic coast and the Delaware Bay estuary are within an hour’s drive.
