Open Rank Position – Clinical Nutrition Faculty

The past year has magnified the ways that inequities—whether due to race, gender, sexuality, or income—contribute to health disparities. These inequities are a major public health threat and demand a concerted, interdisciplinary effort. At the College of Public Health, we dedicate ourselves to public health in all its parameters, from epidemiology to nursing, from social work to rehabilitation sciences. Social justice has always driven our work, understanding that individual outcomes are intricately tied to the larger systems we inhabit, is the foundation of our college.

The Temple University College of Public Health’s interprofessional culture fosters collaboration both within and outside the College.  We value differences among our faculty and believe that we can better serve and understand our Philadelphia community and beyond through the diversity of our individual faculty and our disciplines. Join us in our mission to develop progressive, compassionate researchers, practitioners, and clinicians to build a better tomorrow, grounded in creating the environments and health infrastructure that will make us the healthiest nation.

The Position. Temple University has been accredited by the Accreditation Council on Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) to serve as a Demonstration Program for the Future Education Model. Welcoming our first cohort in the fall of 2021, the MPH in Nutrition program provides students with integrated didactic and experiential learning in in clinical, food service, and public health nutrition. The MPH in Nutrition program provides a unique public health lens for improving the nutrition of individuals and communities, particularly in urban settings and populations affected by health disparities.

Qualifications. We seek an individual with experience and expertise in clinical nutrition to be an integral part of our new MPH in Nutrition. We welcome applicants with recent clinical experience who can apply their expertise integrating ACEND’s new competency-based educational model into our curriculum, teach clinically focused graduate courses, and collaborate with clinical preceptors. Required qualifications include being a registered dietitian nutritionist, holding a minimum of a master’s degree in a nutrition-related field, and clinical dietetics practice experience in a hospital setting. Preferred qualifications include teaching experience in higher education, academic leadership including overseeing clinical/field placements and developing curriculum, public health training, experience working with diverse populations, and a PhD in a nutrition-related field. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusive and anti-oppressive work in research, education and practice.

The Department of Kinesiology. The department is embarking on an exciting period of expansion in developing several nutrition-related academic programs and recruiting energetic and innovative faculty seeking to make an impact through their work. We recently developed a highly successful undergraduate minor in nutrition that has rapidly grown over the past four years. Future programs and research initiatives will focus on the intersection of nutrition, obesity, and chronic disease prevention through a social determinants of health framework.

The Department of Kinesiology is respected for its academic programs, research, and service to the University and the local community. The undergraduate program comprises degrees in Exercise and Sport Science and Kinesiology, with a newly launched MPH in Nutrition program designed to train our future public health dietitians. The department is responsible for delivering courses in anatomy and physiology, as well as physical activity, to the wider university community. Under new leadership, the Department of Kinesiology is embarking on a bold expansion in developing academic programs that align with the overall public health mission of the College. In addition to strengthening our current programs, future academic programs and research initiatives will focus on the intersection of physical activity, nutrition, obesity, and chronic disease prevention with the social determinants of health. Situated in a vibrant, urban environment, the department places a high priority on examining local inequities and working proactively with community partners to address existing health disparities.
