The University of Massachusetts System (UMass) seeks a collaborative, results-driven leader to serve as its next University Controller (Controller). This individual is a key member of the System’s financial leadership team and will be responsible for providing System-wide strategic oversight of financial accounting and operations, external reporting, compliance, and risk-management. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Administration & Finance and Treasurer, the Controller will work closely with President’s office, senior administrators, and campus leaders to ensure a strong and efficient financial control environment that supports the educational mission of the University of Massachusetts System.

 

The Controller will join UMass at a propitious moment in history. The University recently received two transformational gifts: a $175 million gift from the Morningside Foundation and the Chan family to UMass Medical School as well as a $50 million transformational gift from the Manning Family that will be spread among the five campuses. With over 70,000 students systemwide, this individual will be joining the third largest university in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and be responsible for accounting and financial reporting for the five-campus system’s $3.5 billion operating budget, including the preparation of the annual financial report. They will also coordinate the financial statement audits and compliance audit of federal expenditures of the University and establish and maintain the University’s accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives. The Controller will lead a team of approximately eight centrally in addition to coordinating a team of controllers at five campuses and three affiliates in the operational activities supporting the financial success of the University. This is a hybrid position with the expectation that the Controller will work in the office two days per week. Schedule and location may vary at times based on business need.
