Summary of Job Duties:The Computer Operator is responsible for system administration and management of technical aspects of databases, computers, servers, printers, and point of sale. This position will write scripts or programs that facilitate and automate office operations; maintain and update Transact Campus System; coordinate new equipment installations by scheduling wiring and network installation with appropriate campus departments; troubleshoot hardware and software; maintain and update office technical manuals; develop and maintain interdepartmental relations with University departments and vendors such as IT Services, Residence Life, Facilities Management, and Chartwells. The Computer Operator will have regular visits with current and new vendors to ensure continuous and effective communication and system operation; work as a liaison between the Campus Card Office and vendors or departments to develop policies and procedures for efficient server, computer, and office operations; plans and presents training sessions for Campus Card and vendor staff on new programs or equipment; and performs occasional customer service duties. This position is designated as weather/event essential.

This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of a degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field

  • At least one year of experience in computer support



OR

  • Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting

  • At least one year of experience in computer support



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the following: basic knowledge of virtual servers; basic knowledge of programming or scripting; basic knowledge of database structure and management, networking, and direct customer service experience

  • Ability to work in a diverse environment
