William Jewell College invites applications for an Instructor or
Assistant Professor level position in the Department of Chemistry
and Biochemistry. This is a full-time position, beginning in August
2022. Rank and status (term or tenure-track) will depend on
qualifications. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field is
preferred with the ideal candidate qualified to teach biochemistry,
though for exceptional candidates other areas and ABD status will
be considered. The successful applicant will have a passion for
undergraduate chemistry education, assist in program development
(course and curriculum development and assessment), and engage with
undergraduate students as a research mentor. Preference will
be given to applicants with strong communication skills, the
ability to teach a range of undergraduate chemistry courses, and
the desire to integrate fully in a critical thinking college.
Qualifications:
- D. in Chemistry or closely related field is preferred and a Master of Science required (ABD status considered)
- Ability to teach across the undergraduate chemistry and biochemistry curriculum
- Ability to engage undergraduate students in research and scholarly activity
- Ability to develop curriculum and use assessment tools
- Ability to serve as an academic advisor
- Rank and position status is dependent on academic credentials and academic experience

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaching up to 26 contact hours per year with course reduction for the first year, as appropriate
- Curriculum development and assessment
- Develop a program of scholarly activity with undergraduates
- Service to the College and community including academic advising and involvement in College and departmental committees and activities
