Job Description
The Strategic Planning, Implementation and Education Services (SPIES) Department is seeking to hire a qualified individual in the position of IT Project Manager, Intermediate. This position will be responsible for managing division portfolios and critical projects where ITS resources are needed and/or allocated, while working closely with SPIES leadership, ITS leadership, and our university business partners. The IT Project Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing portfolio health, following established best practices for project portfolio management, managing assigned projects, and contributing to the success of the IT Project Portfolio Management Office (PPMO) through the execution and continual improvement of project management practices at Northern Arizona University.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Actively collaborate with one or more university divisions to maintain accurate management of their portion of the enterprise portfolio.
- Support for the ITS portfolio of internal projects.
- Engages with PPMO team, ITS leadership, and resource managers to effectively level resources across the portfolio.
- Provides support at project management trainings and workshops for university staff responsible for project management within their divisions.
- Provides hands-on project management on cross-divisional, complex, and/or at risk projects as assigned, leveraging project management best practices, templates, and established business processes within the PPMO.
- Identifies opportunities for business process improvements within the PPMO and works with the team lead to review and implement as appropriate.
- Supports and implements “people-focused” change management best practices following the ProSci methodology adopted by the university.
- Continually reviews and monitors responsible area portfolios and project health to ensure accurate data for reporting, project analytics, and trend analysis.
- Serves as mentor for PPMO student employees on best practices for project management and project portfolio management.
- Works with PPMO Team Manager to analyze data, review project completion rates, create project health reports, provide resource estimates/utilization, and other relevant aspects of PPM in an effort to drive toward strategic alignment.
- Participates on related campus committees and support groups.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; AND,
- 2-4 years of relevant experience; OR,
- A combination of related education, experience, and training.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP Certification, Agile Certification, or additional coursework in PM preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Excellent communication skills (written, oral, presentations, facilitation/elicitation, training delivery, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse teams.
- Demonstrated experience with professional and ethical conflict resolution and negotiation.
- Demonstrated ability to perform quality assurance and perform quality control is strongly preferred.
- Experience with technology-focused projects leveraging core systems (PeopleSoft, Salesforce, OnBase, LMS, etc.), SaaS applications, custom development, IT infrastructure (IaaS/PaaS), and/or other university systems.
- Experience with a variety of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
- Experience with ServiceNow Portfolio/Project Management, MS Project Professional, Trello, Slack MS Teams, or other project management tools.
- Experience in functional area is strongly preferred.
- Experience in leading IT-related projects.
Background Information
This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Salary
Commensurate with experience.
**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
