The Assistant Director helps create a vibrant community for student
engagement by providing advising support, training, and resources
for the campus programming board, media groups, student
organizations, newly registered student groups, and faculty/ staff
advisors. The Assistant Director serves as an integral member of
the Student Leadership and Involvement staff and supports
departmental initiatives. In addition, the Assistant Director
serves as the liaison to the University Conference & Events
Office regarding student activities space needs.
Primary/Principal Responsibilities:
25% Provide support for Registered Student Organizations (RSO) and Media Groups Provide support for registered student organizations, splitting advisement duties with Associate Director. Attends events and programs regularly and advises night and weekend events as needed. Coordinates club registration process for continuing and new clubs and organizations by maintaining the current database and ensuring compliance with state and University guidelines for registered clubs and organizations. Develops, implements, and evaluates leadership development efforts needed by student organizations. Serves as a general resource person/consultant for individuals and organizations requiring information on program planning, organization recruitment and retention, conflict resolution, and other organizational issues.
25% Advise Campus Activities Programming Board (Program Council)Serves as staff advisor and provides leadership training and team development for the Program Council (Campus Activities Program Board). Mentors and supports executive and general board members. Provide programming support, including attending and advising events during possible nights and weekends. Attend Executive Board and Committee Meetings. Chaperone select members to NACA Conferences as part of student development. Meet with student executive board members to provide support.
15% ProgrammingAssists with the coordination and development of themed programs such as involvement fairs (Fall and Winter), Summer Ticket Series, and Senior week. Assists with the development of weekend and passive programs.
10% Media GroupsAdvises and coordinates with faculty members the various student media groups, including The Suffolk Journal, Suffolk Voice, Suffolk Free Radio, RamCam Productions (Film Club), and the Venture Literary Magazine. Coordinates media selection and serves as program advisor in areas of budget management, policy review, and operating procedures.
10% Social MediaManage department social media presence and branding profile. Create content and provide regular updates as to office hours and offers. Promote campus, office, and student organization events. Support University marketing campaigns. Interact with and answer student questions and requests for more information.
5% Advisor TrainingServe as an office resource and point of contact for advisors and advisor's concerns. Provide training each semester to update and allow interaction between advisors and SLI staff. Create digital and print resources for advisors to update as needed.
5% Professional DevelopmentParticipates in professional development opportunities/programs and in professional organization programs.
5% Other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Master's degree in Student
Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or related
field is required.
1-3 years of experience in a
student activities or related student affairs setting is
preferred.
Demonstrated leadership,
organization, management, and platform skills; an ability to
oversee a wide variety of activities; attention to detail and
ability to work independently.
Solid experience in program
development, implementation, and assessment.
Commitment to a diverse and
multicultural program in department programs.
Excellent interpersonal
skills.
Strong oral and written
communication skills
Strong professional and ethical
standards on which to serve as a role model to a diverse student
constituency. Ability to build working relationships with students,
faculty, and staff.
Ability to maintain flexibility
and work well in a fast-paced environment, including working nights
and weekends as necessary.
