Suffolk University is pleased to announce a career opportunity as an Assistant Bursar of Student Accounts! This position is in charge of maintaining and managing student accounts of students who are in collections and who are with the Universitys billing servicer. This is a key role in working with students and families on ensuring their accounts are paid on a timely basis. This position will also help with customer service and is responsible for managing and coordinating all of the daily operations of the Bursars Office, with an emphasis on customer service.

The Assistant Bursar will evaluate delinquent and defaulted accounts to determine appropriateness of collection agency assignment. S/He performs timely due diligence including, but not limited to, verbal and written communication with families and preparation and mailing of past due statements.

The Assistant Bursar will also provide financial counseling to all students within the Suffolk community. Furthermore, s/he will promote retention and graduation strategies, by working with the Bursar and the Financial Aid Office to ensure that the necessary documentation is processed and strong customer relations are maintained, effectively solving issues in an effort to resolve account delinquency and prevent withdrawal.

The position will prepare appropriate documentation and submit student accounts to third party collectors. S/he must have a critical eye for detail, the ability to assess risk, and strong problem solving and customer skills. Solid computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel are also required. The ability to communicate effectively with all levels is also necessary.

The Assistant will be a backup to the University cashier and will assist in cashiering and bank deposit and reconciliation.

The Assistant Bursar will be a resource for the Student Account Counselors. S/He will be a resource for the staff in dealing with difficult or unusual requests and in the interpretation of Federal Regulation. This position will also be a liaison to the Ram Center staff.
Requirements/Qualification:

Bachelors required.
Major in business, accounting, or finance is preferred
Excellent
organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills
Customer service
oriented with a commitment to quality customer service
Ability to remain calm
in stressful situations
Knowledge of credit and
collection principles, processes, regulations, and standards
Ability to maintain the
confidentiality of records and information
- Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
- Excellent PC skills
- Familiarity with Database Administrative software and Datatel Colleague is helpful
- Knowledge of federal and state policies regarding Financial Aid is helpful
