Position Summary:

Individual colleges within the Community College system provide Early Childhood Education Laboratory Schools, offering childcare, child development, nutrition, and related services for the pre-school children of students, staff, and citizens of communities in their respective service areas. The college also offers academic programs in Early Childhood Education. The Early Childhood Education (ECE) laboratory school provides the collateral function of serving as laboratories for practical experience by Early Childhood Education students.

The Child Development Kindergarten Specialist plans and carries out Kindergarten readiness learning activities for children who will be transitioning to Kindergarten as well as assisting Early Childhood Education students at the Community College in gaining practical Pre-School teaching experience as part of their curriculum. Incumbents must possess a proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood/Kindergarten Education or a related field with two (2) or more years of experience in a related field.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Experience in Early Childhood/Kindergarten Education.
  • Experience in Child development and learning principles and applications.
  • Experience in Childcare administration.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the Connecticut Early Childhood Curriculum and Assessment Standards.
  • Knowledge of the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards.
  • Knowledge of the Connecticut Documentation and Observation for Teaching Systems.
Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Director of Child Development or other administrators, the Child Development Specialist is accountable for contributing to the development and care of children enrolled in the College’s laboratory school through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

  • Providing age and developmentally appropriate learning experiences for assigned children in the College ECE laboratory school.
  • Contributing to the practical experience of the College’s early childhood education students.
  • Communicating with parents/guardians about their children’s progress as well as about the services of the Center.
  • Contributing to the effective management of the Center by participating in its administration.

The Child Development Kindergarten Specialist must be flexible and have the availability to work evening and weekend hours.

Starting Salary:

$32.14 hourly.
