Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $70,000 - $73,000 per year. Salary is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt, CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Brand Strategy and Marketing, the Associate Director of Brand Strategy and Marketing will play a critical role in developing and executing the university marketing plan to shape and manage the Fresno State’s brand, build awareness, inspire engagement and philanthropy, and position the University regionally, nationally and globally. The incumbent serves a strategic role in the conception and execution of University-wide marketing and philanthropic campaigns, targeting various audiences including: the campus community, prospective students, current students, staff and faculty, alumni, donors, opinion leaders and the general public.

In addition, the Associate Director of Marketing is responsible for all digital and online marketing efforts for the University, including managing the website, email marketing and other digital tactics in coordination with the Brand Strategy and Marketing team and various campus leaders.

This managerial position is covered by the Management Personnel Plan. Supervisory duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees in University Brand Strategy and Marketing; directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending retention, handling or recommending resolution to their complaints and grievances and recommending disciplinary action when necessary; planning the work; determining the techniques to be used; proportioning the work among the employees; determining the types of materials, supplies, or equipment to be used.

Key Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of marketing functions, including marketing strategy/planning, direct marketing, event marketing, campaign marketing, collateral and video production, online and social media marketing, and traditional marketing channels and techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of communications and marketing objectives and ability to translate them both orally and in written format for effective communications and marketing campaigns.
  • Ability to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short-term strategic communications and marketing plans.
  • Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of communications, publications, media and/or marketing in order to develop and execute print and web communication strategies to elevate the University brand.
  • Demonstrated ability to discover and compose compelling stories that not only convey but also humanize institutional messages and priorities through powerful narrative.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply content strategy, marketing and branding best practices, as well as institutional identity standards, to the development of branded experiences, events, initiatives and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience motivating and managing a team.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Psychology, Public Relations, Journalism, English or equivalent related discipline.
  • Minimum of four years of recent, increasingly responsible professional experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or agency environment; a combination of education and directly related experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience demonstrating the capacity to successfully direct and lead a team.
