Primary Duties
Under general supervision, plays one or more musical instruments, and provides accompaniment for choral or operatic public performances and coaches soloists or small groups. The incumbent provides rehearsal and performance accompaniment for vocal and instrumental student lessons and ensembles and may assist in selection of appropriate music as required.

KNOWLEDGE :
Incumbent must possess:
  • Thorough knowledge of fundamentals of music theory and history.
  • Working knowledge standard choral literature.




SKILLS :
Incumbent must possess:
  • Skills playing one or more musical instruments as accompanist.
  • Skills reducing open score.
  • Skills playing in variety of musical styles.


ABILITIES :
Incumbent must possess the ability to:
  • Select rehearse choral music in a variety of styles appropriate music.
  • Compose or improvise music in appropriate styles.
  • Coach vocalist.
  • Transcribe music from recordings.
  • Sight read standard instrumental and vocal literature.
  • Perform duties as assigned.


Required Education and/or Experience
Special training or coursework that would facilitate composing and improvising music and/or coaching and accompanying
AND
Experience which has led to a thorough familiarity with accompanying choral groups and soloists (instrumental and vocal) or interpretive dances. Experience in coaching performing artists. Additional Requirements for this Position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position playing a piano for long periods of time and frequently moving about. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings for meetings and events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Rehearsal is done in recital hall, large room with faculty students. Due to the nature of the work, work hours may be in the evenings or during the day. Benefits

Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act ( ACA ) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period.
